Equipping to Teach: A conversation with Yan Ru

Yan Ru, 1st Congre

Yan Ru

Hello! My name is Yan Ru and I attend the First Congregation. I signed up for Equipping to Teach this year because in my CG, we take turns to lead Bible studies and I wanted to be able to lead confidently and understand God's word for myself even if I didn't have a study guide to follow.

Throughout the course, we learned to take apart a text or a passage and to look at sentence diagramming, common themes, to really understand the text's meaning. And this was a very inductive approach that required us to look from the text up instead of reading our own assumptions into the text. And my greatest joy and takeaway has really been watching each of my group members lead their own Bible studies.

Even though we all went through the same material and the same lessons, but each person really brought their own flair and their personality to their Bible study in terms of the questions that they asked and the way that they facilitated the discussion. And I think it really reflects how God has made us differently and He has gifted us all uniquely as well.

So if you're someone who wants to grow in your love and your understanding of God's word, if you want to also be able to learn God's word and understand it for yourself without always looking to third-party commentaries, then definitely sign up for Equipping to Teach.
