Season of Lent

Lent (18 Feb – 2 Apr) is a season where we slow down and walk with Jesus, through prayer, fasting, and in Sabbath rest. Over forty days, we are invited to name our need for God and learn again what it means to trust Him when life is hard and answers are not clear. Lent leads us through suffering and longing, and toward the hope of Good Friday and the joy of Easter.

For centuries, the church has observed Lent as a shared rhythm of repentance, prayer, and hope. As we enter this season, we join Christians around the world and across history, seeking God together and fixing our hearts on Jesus.

This year, Lent sits alongside our Job sermon series. Job reminds us that faith does not require neat explanations for suffering. Instead, we are invited to bring our questions, grief, and confusion honestly to God, and to keep trusting Him even when His ways are hidden. Lent gives us space to practise this kind of faith by bringing our pain before God rather than avoiding it.

In our culture shaped by comfort, efficiency, and self-sufficiency, Lent is intentionally different. It helps us re-centre our lives around God through simple and shared practises of prayer, fasting, and Sabbath. As a church, we desire to look Godward in these ways, experiencing deeper joy in Him, and to look outward through compassion, generosity, and sharing the Good News with others.

To help us walk through Lent together, we are inviting us to:

Our hope is that these resources and rhythms can help each of us find a simple and meaningful way to engage with God this season. We pray that through these forty days, God would meet us personally and corporately, shaping us into a people who trust Him, bring our whole selves to Him, and find our deepest hope in Christ.
