Worship on Earth as it is in Heaven

Sermon will focus on fully-engaged worship from Revelation 4-5, with a focus on the centrality of worship in the new heaven and earth, the centrality of Christ in our worship, and how our worship now brings something of heaven to earth as we await his return. Worship is embodied and it involves every part of us. We will use various passages of scripture from the Old and New Testaments that talk about congregational worship, and the engagement of our hearts and bodies. The focus will be on particularly how we engage our hearts and our bodies in response to God.

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

What makes the gospel good news is not only based on how Jesus lived his life, but because of his resurrection, 3 days after his death on the cross.  If Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead, we will have no hope in life and in death and remain dead in our sins.  It is through his resurrection that we have a hope and future in eternity.

True Friendship

A wise person is surrounded by good friends who live out the biblical version of friendship that is based upon our Trinitarian, relational God.  True friends know and understand us, love us rightly, and graciously provide counsel and correction to us so that we can become all who God is making us to be.  We are greatly empowered to live out this vision of friendship when we come to know the friendship of the Lord, through the selfless actions of Jesus who lays down his life for his friends.

Wisdom In Strife And Conflicts

We live in a broken world full of strife and conflicts because the human heart is proud and self-seeking by nature.  As those who have received peace and mercy from God, we are called by him to be peacemakers who would overcome evil with good.

Words, The Fountain Of Life

Words are powerful and can be used for good or bad.  Oftentimes they are used to destroy our relationship with God and others.  However, as God’s image bearers we should use our words to glorify God and build one another up.  This is possible through Christ’s transforming work in our lives since our words flow from our heart.

Money, Generosity And The Wisdom Of God

Christians value the Kingdom of God as more important than anything else, especially our own comfort and our own kingdoms.  Therefore, we see our money as a resource to be used in the display of God's character and the extension of his kingdom.  We do this because we have a lasting city that cannot be taken from us.

Money, Worship And The Wisdom Of God

Proverbs shows us that although money is morally neutral, it can be used powerfully for good or evil. This is because our hearts tempt us to have a disordered relationship with it, which in turns corrupts our own lives, relationships and society around us. The Bible teaches us that we are to worship and trust God above all, and use our money as a way to love both him and our neighbour.

Wisdom To Live Rightly Before God And Others

The Lord weighs the heart of man and blesses those who have integrity while pushing those who lack integrity. Jesus Christ bore the punishment we deserved for failing to walk rightly before God so that we can receive the forgiveness of sins and a transformed heart that desires to walk with integrity.

Wisdom for Work

Work in a fallen world can be hard. Most people deal with this by selectively avoiding some aspects of our work, and over-investing in other aspects of our work. Because the root of both avoidance of work and workaholicism is pride, the only way to meaningful work is to do it to the glory of God, through the grace that comes to us in Jesus Christ.

Wisdom for Dating and Relationships

Wisdom in dating can only happen when we understand the purpose of both dating and marriage. In Proverbs, this is tied to us living lives of increasing wisdom as we learn to walk before God in his paths. Once we understand their purpose we are able to conduct ourselves in the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom. Christ comes to save us from the consequences of our sin, rescue us from our low dating ambitions, and empower us to live out our relationships with godly wisdom.

Loving Your Children, Honouring Your Parents

The parent-child relationship is one of the most important and complex relationships we experience, with possibilities for amazing joy and sorrow to coexist within it. Parents are to love their children by training them for life, and children are to honour the parents God has given them. It’s only possible to do this rightly when we are in right relationship with our heavenly Father through his perfect Son Jesus.

The Path of Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. For those who decide to rightly relate to the living God, they will receive wisdom, understanding and enjoy security and peace. For those who disregard this gracious offer, they will receive the fruit of their man-centered living - death and calamity. Wisdom's offer and active pursuit of man is God's gift of grace to underserving sinners.
