Philippians

Joy! Joy! Joy! In a world of contrived happiness that is centered around possessions and experiences, the book of Philippians paints a contrasting view of true joy, a joy that is found in Christ. Paul, the author of the book is writing from prison, a place not often associated with happiness yet his heart overflows with themes of joy and love. The source of Paul’s joy becomes clear as the letter progresses, with the knowledge of Christ trumpeted as the highest of Paul’s aims.

Another theme in the book is the partnership in the gospel that Paul has with other churches. He is delighted that they are standing side by side contending for the faith, proclaiming the gospel and not denying their relationship with Paul despite his prison chains.
