Jonah

Jonah has to be one of the most remarkable books in the bible. It’s a true account of an unwilling messenger who God chose to use despite his fear, self righteousness and anger towards his enemies. It’s a wonderful reminder to us that God’s Sovereign plan supercedes our personal issues. And yet, He uses the circumstances to reveal Jonah’s sin, his anger towards enemies, his self righteousness and his lack of trust in God. The book is a masterful account that manages to weave the macro story of God’s redemption plan for pagan Nineveh with the subplot of Jonah’s own personal dealings with God.

The small four chapter book has so many themes it’s almost hard to list them all. It shows the link between the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man, the price of running from God, the love of God for his rebellious servants, the worthlessness of idolatry, revival, self righteousness and God’s compassion for the world.

Perhaps you thought the book of Jonah was only a far fetched account of a man and a fish. As you listen to these sermons, may God open your eyes to see the wonder of His character and the wisdom of responding to His call.
